Changers to the voting process at http://www.wwtq.net have just been announced. The CEO, Dr. Peter Hubbard, when interviewed by your intrepid blogger in Rome today, said, "Initially we were allowing voting from the time a musician or singer uploaded their file into a Concert. During the last week, we received a lot of emails asking for the voting to only start when a Concert had filled up. As we are completely customer focused, after reviewing the emails and talking to the users, we have changed the voting process so that musicians and singers can now upload into a Concert, and once it fills, voting commences. We are still reviewing every track with members of our Professional Panel, and we are still very much looking for the next "Star".
Also, we are proud to announce that we have negotiated a world-wide deal whereby we can offer a recording contract and distribution agreement as part of the prize package for selected Super Concerts. This will have a nominal value of some $25,000," Peter said.
It has also been announced during the world tour that a special series of contests are being organized for Indie Bands, with a prize pool of some ten thousand pounds for each Concert.
With the world tour now moving to Hong Kong, the WorldWideTalentQuest can now truly claim to be international, with users from the US, UK, Europe, and China now uploading regularly.

Australian young Clarinetist wins $1,000

A young Australian Clarinetist, "Lloyd", has just won $1,000 awarded as a Music Grant by popular vote at the WorldWideTalentQuest. This is the fourth cash award made in the past four weeks, with a Rock singer, a Jazz violinist, and a young pianist also winning cash music grants. "Lloyd" was quick to thank and praise his teacher, Mystro Paul Dean, resident at the Brisbane Conservatory and leader of the internationally aclaimed Southern Cross Soloists. "Paul has been a tremendous teacher and mentor, and I'd like to think I am starting to play like he does," Lloyd said. "If I can achieve just half of what Paul and the Southern Cross Soloists have I will be really pleased."

Master Brass player Phil Ryan joins WorldWideTalentQuest

After studying and Graduating with a BA in Music performance from the Victorian College of the Arts, he began his career as an orchestral trumpeter, first with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and later as principal trumpet with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra.

The quality and versatility of his playing was amply demonstrated during his six years as lead trumpet and arranger with the popular brass quintet, Brass Razoo, where he extended his playing toward jazz and commercial styles of music. He has continued this interest in brass chamber playing through his brass quartet “BUZZ” which tours nationally for Musica Viva and the Queensland Arts Council.
Phil has taught at St Peters Lutheran College as director of bands and in a similar role at Cannon Hill Anglican College. He has filled smaller positions at a large number of state and private schools throughout Brisbane.

In recent years, Phil has played for national productions of shows such as Hello Dolly, Westside Story, The Secret Garden, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, and Miss Saigon. Phil is a regular clinician at events such as the Sunwater and Stanwell winter music school in Rockhampton and the McGregor summer music school in Toowoomba. Phil currently shares his experiences and skills with students at the Queensland Conservatorium and at the University of Queensland where he teaches the Trumpet and directs the brass ensemble.

Chinese Restaurant stopped in its tracks

It was a typical winters night in the City - a hundred diners or so crammed into a small Chinese restaurant, some guests flowing out onto the street. A small upright piano was jammed against the counter, half in and half out of the doorway.
A well dressed young man was playing, entertaining an audience who were largely ignoring him, busy as they were eating, talking, laughing, chopsticks clattering on porcelain rice bowls.
On one table, a family listened and watched, their daughter a pianist in her own right, and at just 13 years of age, conflicted in trying to choose between her piano and her cello, her second instrument. Both instruments were demanding hours and hours of her time every day in practice, and there was more than a little pressure on her to choose one over the other.
As the family was leaving, the young girl stopped to acknowledge the young pianist, who, obviously chuffed at someone actually listening to him, ask her if she played.
After a little hesitation, she said "yes", and he invited her to look for something she might know from his pile of music scores. She picked one out, a piece she was studying, Mozart's Sonata, No.5
She sat down, prepared herself, and started to play.
The loud, noisy environment, to a person, serving staff included, literally stopped in their tracks, and for the full length of the first movement, the only sound that could be heard was the beautiful flowing music, and the exhaust note of the occasional passing car.
When she finished, people stood up, and clapped, cheered, and smiled, as if they had been wakened from a long sleep.
Music if food for your soul, and on that night the customers of that Chinese Restaurant shared something with each other beyond the menu, something that had a touch of magic about it.

In what seems to be an amazing performance, the first Opera Singer on the WorldWideTalent Quest is leading the popular voting as this blog goes to air!
"Adam", a classically trained singer from New South Wales (about the middle of the Australian East Coast) entered a Concert at the suggestion of one of Australia's greatest internationally recognized Flautists.
